Hi! I’m Bushra

An accidental copyeditor who helps STM businesses like yours get flawless manuscripts ready on time

How I accidentally became a copyeditor

17 years ago if you’d told me I’d set up a copyediting business, build a talented team, and find multiple long-term clients, I’d have asked:

“What’s copyediting?”

I can only thank my husband who sneakily sent my resume for the role of Assistant Manager, Copyediting at Thomson Press …  because they actually hired me.

That was in 2004.

A lot has happened since then ...

  1. My detail-oriented nature sharpened my copyediting skills at a surprising speed
  2. A PhD in Biosciences and Masters in Biotechnology helped me edit STM manuscripts with relative ease
  3. I spent the next decade learning and leading copyeditors at McMillan, Wiley, Pearson, and other major publishers
  4. I passed the coveted BELS examination and became a certified Editor in the Life Sciences
  5. My husband and I bought our first house and to see it get ready I quit my job and became a full-time freelancer
  6. I found clients around the world—Turkey, Saudi Arabia, China, the Middle East, the US, the UK—and forged a relationship that continues with many even after 5 years
  7. I built a team of select editors to keep my growing number of clients satisfied and helped more talented people enjoy the freedom of freelance life

My goals today are simple

Help my clients do great work —publish high-quality papers, impress more customers, and grow their businesses—steadily

Help my team (and me) pursue our passion while enjoying the freedom to work from anywhere on our own time
